Saturday, September 28 and 29, 2024
9:30am - 3:00pm

Location:
Fort Flagler State Park
Marrowstone Island, WA

Instructor:
Hannah Viano

A weekend of rambling through forests and along beaches as we explore a wide variety of ways to take our observations of the world around us and bring them to the page (and through that- deeper into our hearts and minds). Our activities and prompts will take a variety of and artistic and written forms, and we will alternate between walking and periods of seated work in different nooks, overlooks, and environments around the park. No experience is necessary, just a dash of curiosity and a willingness to explore and experiment in community.

What to Bring:

  • a sketchbook (or notebook with blank pages) and a pen and pencil

  • other art supplies that fit easily into your pack (Hannah will bring a sack of her favorite tools for you to try out as well)

  • a packed lunch and water

  • adequate clothing with enough layers for the weather, including comfortable walking shoes

Recommended:

  • a thermos with hot beverage

  • a sit upon (insulated pad to sit on when perched out in the wilds)

Tuition:
$285

Ages:
15+ (minors must be accompanied by a registered adult)

Note: We will meet at Fort Flagler State Park each day. In the days leading up to the class you will receive specific instructions on where to park and meet your instructor.

Hannah Viano

Hannah is an artist and educator based in the Methow Valley, Washington. “When I started, art was fit in around the edges of a life of teaching and adventures on land and sea. An acrobatics class in Santiago, landscape watercolors in Taos, rigging in Port Townsend, I studied whatever a place had to teach me. Now I strive to use that diverse background to collaborate across disciplines, seeking out projects that give me the opportunity to illustrate important ecological stories, challenge me to compellingly depict subjects and ideas, and use education to foster stewardship and a sense of place. This work comes to life through children’s books, teaching residencies, science outreach, cross- pollinator expeditions, and community focused public art projects. Hannah is also the host and facilitator of the Singla Creative Residency on Arnøya Island, Norway.
